Shri Atmanada Krishna Menon
“It is high time now to throw off the veil of secrecy, and broadcast the whole Truth in the face of the world which has already advanced much, intellectually.”
~ Shri Atmananda
00:31
it is high time now to throw off the
veil of secrecy
surrounding religions and truth
and broadcast the whole truth
in the face of the world which has
already
advanced much intellectually
00:59
01:10
deep mental activity generates heat
which keeps off deep sleep
01:18
01:22
cold in its intensity wakes you up
01:26
01:30
deep sleep brings on a sense of
happiness and peace with it
this experience we get only in the
absence
of all mental activity
01:49
when we direct our mind to this
happiness aspect of deep sleep
we feel a sensation of gentle coolness
which wards off all sense of negation in
sleep
02:09
so we get to our real nature by relaxing
our mind
from all forms of activity
and at the same time not losing sight of
the happiness and peace
experienced in deep sleep
02:41
this positive aspect saves us from the
probable shroud of negation and slumber
we should not allow the mind to be
active
and at the same time we should see that
it does not become
inactive
in other words sleep
knowingly
03:23
thus deep sleep
can be utilized directly for
establishing oneself
in the real center
03:58
coming out of the deep sleep state
you say that you were happy
how was it possible for you to say it
unless you were conscious of your
happiness experienced
in the deep sleep state
therefore it follows that consciousness
and happiness
were in the deep sleep state
and that is your real nature
04:40
why do i say that that is your real
nature
because when it stands divested of body
senses and mind
the I principle alone is present
05:02
and there you find consciousness and
happiness
05:14
it is therefore that i say that the I principle
is consciousness and happiness
05:41
this consciousness never parts with the
I principle
05:47
even in the three states
consciousness is present with the
I principle
in the deep sleep state
it is present with the I principle in
the dream state
it is present in the waking state
but only that the I principle is joined
onto something else in the dream state
and in the waking state
06:33
but still the consciousness is there
06:43
and it is this very consciousness
that expresses itself in the senses and
in the mind
06:58
not only that when you closely
examine your own experiences
you will find that occasionally
it expresses itself as pure
consciousness
07:17
07:25
thus for example examine the interval
between two states
between two thoughts
between two feelings
07:46
07:54
and between two perceptions
you will admit that there is an interval
between two thoughts
08:29
otherwise one thought must be continuing
one thought must end and another thought
must commence
08:50
there is no denying the fact that there
is an interval of time
09:01
call it a moment call it an
infinitesimal part of a second
but still there is that time
09:26
09:29
well what were you in that state
were you in the waking state?
09:40
09:42
no
09:44
09:46
were you in the dream state?
no
09:55
were you in the deep sleep state?
no
10:07
and then what were you
you were in your real nature
10:22
10:46
thus you find that even in the waking
state
every now and again you go to your real
nature
and come out of it
but you do not take note of it
11:27
it is never possible for you to have a
life in this world
unless you get to your real nature
at every moment in this manner
11:45
11:55
so try to put emphasis there
11:59
12:04
and then again when consciousness is
found joined onto objects
try to put emphasis there
in the interval
12:17
12:19
instead of putting emphasis upon the
material
objects alone
12:25
12:49
that way if you continue for some time
you will find that you are unconsciously
retreating your step
right towards the center which
you want to establish
and that is the real I principle
which is consciousness and happiness
13:20
14:02
jivas like waves in the sea
come into being rise and fall
fight against each other and die
striking against the seashore
waves recede tired and worn out
seeking rest and peace
14:43
14:47
likewise jivas seek the supreme
in various ways
14:59
waves have their birth life and death
in the sea itself
15:08
jivas in the lord
15:20
waves in nothing but water
so is the sea
15:35
likewise the jiva and the lord
and nothing other than sat chit
and ananda
15:55
15:57
when waves realize that the sea
is their common support
all fight ceases
16:19
much is not gained thereby
this is not the final word
work lies ahead to remove the sense of
separateness
16:39
16:47
when water is realized wave
and see vanish
what appeared as two is thus
realized
as one
17:23
water can be reached straight away from
wave
by following the direct path
17:34
if the way through sea is taken
much more time is needed
17:54
18:03
it is in consciousness that objects rise
therefore when they disappear
what remains over is this consciousness
and not nothingness
18:42
18:47
if this truth takes deep root in thought
deep sleep giving up its character of
veiling the reality
becomes transformed into nerva culpa
samadi
19:11
19:18
when objects are also realized as
nothing other than consciousness
one comes back to one’s true nature
which is changeless
and above all states
including samadhi
20:03
the intense feeling that one is neither
the doer
nor the enjoyer removes all bondage
and one’s real nature comes to light
thereby
20:23
20:42
the seer as such can never be the same
and the seen as such can never be the
seer
20:55
21:00
if this truth goes deep into one’s heart
the mistaken identification with the
body ceases
21:22
21:32
when reality is attributed to things
in the objective world
remember that you are then an embodied
being
21:47
in other words there is then
identification of oneself with the body
22:02
22:19
always bear in mind that such
changes as birth growth decay
and destruction are the characteristics
of matter
an object of consciousness
22:49
it must be clearly understood
that consciousness is different from its
object
and that while objects vary
consciousness remains constant
23:09
23:33
words such as immutable
and formless cannot
even by their negative import
show reality as it is
23:51
23:57
the statement that a man is not a beast
is no doubt true but does it show
any of a man’s true characteristics
24:09
24:14
it is impossible to show reality as it
is
24:20
24:22
words are at best mere pointers
24:32
24:41
if without knowing this
one contemplates what is literally
signified by words
one’s experience of reality
will be tainted to that extent
25:01
25:13
but if words are taken merely as helps
to rise above all thoughts
it is perfectly in order
25:31
25:51
if reality is conceived of as beyond all
thoughts
and contemplation directed accordingly
words may help to lead one to a stage
where all thoughts cease
and reality is experienced
26:37
doubt may arise whether it is possible
to contemplate anything
beyond all thoughts
26:47
it is possible
the difficulty is only apparent
27:13
27:28
the contemplative thought itself
will automatically come to a standstill
in the end
and in that stillness
will be seen shining
one’s true nature
28:07
what is beyond all thoughts may be
indirectly contemplated in other ways as
well
28:19
they will also take one to one’s true
nature
28:42
so
always bear in mind that such words as
consciousness
or knowledge
being or happiness
all point to the I
29:09
29:20
hold on to one thought to dispel
other thoughts
let that thought be such as points to
one’s being
30:06
30:11
think of one’s being as that into which
all thoughts merge
30:26
then the one thought taken hold on
gives up its form emerges
into being
30:37
31:05
thus knowledge and happiness
are one’s own being
31:20
31:23
with this conviction
if thought is directed to either of
these
that thought also gives up its form
and merges
31:53
34:49
